Chapter One

My workbook - Colour wheel - Image 4
I have never created a colour wheel from scratch before so this was quite a challenge. I did not have any gouache paints so I bought a set of Reeves paints as they were not as expensive as individual tubes of Winsor & Newton. I was careful to have lots of day light and to clean the brush and water after each colour.  Some of the shade colours are a bit dark so next time I need to add less black!

My workbook - Images of stars - Image 3
I searched books, magazines, the internet and several art exhibition catalogues for images of stars.  I have stuck the images on a piece of star material and a piece of star wrapping paper I found in my workroom.
My workbook - Line drawings of stars - Image 2
My second task is to draw the star images in my workbook.  I am not very confident with drawing so some of the stars were traced but I am determined to practice more and hopefully improve!  Some of the images are geometric stars while others are more abstract.
My workbook - Stars and crosses - Image 1
This is the beginning of my course and I must say I am very excited about it.   I completed City & Guilds Level 2 with Janet Crowther at Urchfont in July which covered machine embroidery so I am looking forward to a mixture of machine and hand embroidery.

This first module is on Shape and Colour and for my first task I have been asked to research stars and crosses.   I really like the idea of concentrating on one topic so it should give me the opportunity of experimenting and developing ideas.
